The road to safety for the W4s
With a 10 am pushback in East London, it’s safe to say spirits were low for our latest battle in the Division 4 East relegation scrap.
We got off to a ropey start with Blythe heading off for a TC, no balls and masks in sight, and Captain JT turning up so hungover she waltzed herself to A&E on the way home, but that’s another story. On to the game…
A win for us would put us on the road to safety, but I guess that’s been the case all season. The game started slowly and with a few players moved up and down the club, we had, as usual, a turbulent start, going 1-0 down early on.
Heads didn’t drop, and we fought back. The first goal came from Isla, who after 5 shoddy short corners, decided to point out she was actually ‘ok’ at straight striking. Boom, the backboard rattled.
A Wapping foot on the line saw us awarded a P flick. Ness, yet to get off the mark this season, stepped up. She was itching for Olympic glory on the 2012 pitch. 2-1, and no celebration from Ness, an aubergine of the day contender as a result. The game was finished nicely by a tap-in from Izzy making it 3-1.
3 points in the bag and on the road to safety, off we went to enjoy our pasties and chips, all before lunchtime.
The W4's finished their season fourth, from the bottom, avoiding relegation and clinging onto the glory of division 4 East.
