M2 vs Honor Oak M1
Despite the threat of Storm Darragh last Saturday, the Men’s 2s set out under George Nellist’s management on a quest to pick up a vital 3 points in Div 2 south against unbeaten Honor Oak M1.
Carrying momentum from last week’s road win, the 2s were quick out of the gate in the opening exchanges, absorbing a lot of aerial pressure and settling into the game nicely. First blood came from THD, with Jared Oliver dispatching our first penalty corner of the day. 1-0.
As the game progressed, things began to heat up on both sides, with a few players hitting the deck and some sticks finding their way off the pitch. Some scrappy exchanges followed, with Honor Oak clawing their way back into the game with a fast-paced counterattack followed by an impressive baseline finish.
However, the game didn’t stay tied for long with THD on the front foot immediately after conceding. A quick-thinking free hit taken from Conor Magowan in midfield was followed by a divine pass from skipper, Ross Lunn to the back post where Toby Miller silently pounced tipping the ball in to put THD 2-1 up before HT.
A dominant second-half display followed from the home side, with a strong defensive line keeping the opposition at bay. Taking the initiative to put the game to bed, Coach Nellist orchestrated a sublime short corner variation to run, and it delivered. Tim West on his nose and the back post for a lovely tip in, 3-1, job done.
