A gamble vs Gamblers.
Rolling into the match without a goalkeeper, THD Ladies 5s were clearly in the mood for high-stakes hockey. Luckily for Captain Ellen, the gamble paid off.
From the first whistle, THD were on the attack and within minutes we were 1-0 ahead courtesy of Emily Sadler. Moments later, we were awarded a short corner, straight out to Cara Phillips at top D and jogging back to the halfway line 2-0 up. With our midfield driving the ball expertly up the wings, it was only a matter of time before we found ourselves back in the attacking D, Sophia Hallsworth took aim and found the outside of the far post, but our training kicked in and Emily Sadler pounced on the rebound and slotted it through the keeper's legs. Following a short delay, in which the legality of playing without a goalkeeper was questioned and the rules re-learnt, play restarted and as the half ebbed away, Sophie Burn decided it was time to add her name to the scoresheet as she looped one over the goalkeeper. Halftime whistle and THD are 4-0 up.
The second half started as the first had ended, with THD relentlessly attacking. Cara Phillips and Emily Sadler bagged a goal each and we were quickly 6-0 up. Gamblers went on the offensive and courtesy of a THD foot were awarded a short corner. Momentary panic ensued but THD lined up, Gabby Simon was straight out like a whippet - straight strike prevented & ball cleared. With the clock running down, Chloe Seydoux decided to give everyone a masterclass in attacking midfield play, cutting effortlessly through Gamblers midfield and defence, again and again. Her hard work was rewarded as Emily Sadler slotted home her 4th and our final goal.
Final whistle - THD 7 - Gamblers 0.
PoM
Chloé Seydoux: For "stunning, graceful attacking runs", numerous entries into the attacking D.
