Coaching Spotlight: Dan Rose, Ladies' 2nd XI lead coach

Name: Dan Rose

Role: Ladies 2nd XI lead coach

How did you get involved in Hockey?

The first time I picked up a stick was when I was nine. I joined my school's hockey club and have played ever since.

How long have you been coaching for?

I believe it to be eight years now and enjoy it more and more with each year.

Any coaching philosophy/mantra that you live by?

My biggest word at heart is FUN! I believe that without the fun factor, everything else will fall apart. To enable players to reach their potential, the sport has to be fun. It’s the game we love and pour our emotions into, keeping it fun is key!

THD W2

What is it about THD? Why should people join the club?

Since joining the club it is very hard to keep away, whether that is playing, coaching or socialising in the clubhouse or at socials. That being said, this is down to the all friendly faces in the club. As I always hear THD is the  “friendliest club around”.

Whether you are a complete beginner, casual player, junior, vet or a high-level player there is a spot just right for you and a team that would love to have you as part of their squad.

How was last season?

Looking in on the W2s story this season, we saw a large number of new faces joining the squad. We had a very solid start to the season with eight wins before Christmas, putting ourselves second in the league. We finished 4th overall with solid performances throughout the season.

Last season was a fantastic season all round for the club, with a number of our lower club teams gaining promotion and others just missing out.

What are you focusing on for the upcoming season?

In terms of performance, next season is going to be a tough one to beat as a club. For the ladies' 2nd XI, being able to push even further in the final standings is something we will be pushing for, our overall aim is promotion. As for the lower club, the teams who have been promoted face a tough season in new leagues, with new opponents, but we have a solid base to build on - here's to another great season for the whole club.

How can new joiners get involved ahead of the new season?

Firstly register your interest with the club, but secondly, come down to our club day at Dulwich College on 31st August. You can expect some fun hockey and meet the club members as we all head over to the clubhouse after a morning of hockey. I can guarantee lots of friendly faces who will make you feel welcome. You can find out more here.

The club fields 14-19 adult teams every weekend and runs a thriving junior section (aged 6-18). A competitive club at the heart of the local community, with teams playing over a range of levels from beginners to the London Premier Division. If you are keen to coach or play for South London's friendliest club - register your interest here.
