Match Report: 5th October 2024

W4 vs Spencer W7 (Away at Battersea Park)

League: London Women’s Div 4 East 

Following on from last week’s seven-goal thriller with Wayfarers, with the 4s narrowly missing out on points, the team headed off to Battersea Park hungry for a victory and points, and points we would get. 

The team this week welcomed back legendary 4s vets, Jess Hart who has returned following ACL surgery and Sally who was off last season after having a baby, both making their first start for the 4s since 22/23 season! There was even talk of the old captain returning to a managerial role on the sidelines, but JT ditched us for a round of golf. 

With the captain absent, KP stepped up and took charge of the team. 

All the action took place in the first half, with superstar Junior Jess Jones (borrowed from the 5s - thank you!) bagging the first goal with an assist from the older Currie sister on the squad Grace. 1-0 THD. The assist was described as “textbook” by supporters on the sideline.

The second goal game just before halftime from a short corner - a straight strike from KP 2-0 and time for a jelly baby or two. You can watch it here. 

With the team playing well, especially the juniors', confidence levels were high, the 4s came out hungry for more goals. The team was solid, but goals were not on the cards for the second half. A bad tackle saw Laura sent off to A&E with a broken wrist. 

We have to mention how well our new juniors are finding confidence and a solid performance all round. Points in the bag but surgery for Laura - wishing you a speedy recovery from your fracture.
