Team of the Week: W1

Saturday 25th January, 2025

On a glorious afternoon at Alleyn's School, the W1s showed strength and skill with a dominant 7-1 victory over Wanderers 1s.

From the first whistle, THD looked determined to make a statement. Their work rate and high press put immediate pressure on Wanderers, who struggled to find their rhythm in the opening minutes. THD's first breakthrough came early, with Anouk slotting home the first goal after a great team attack. Shortly after, the hosts doubled their advantage when Char flicked one past the Wanderers keeper.

The first half was controlled by THD, who set the intensity from the start, with Wanderers struggling to find a way through a solid THD defence. THD's third goal came just before halftime, as Anouk executed a flair reverse stick shot from an outrageous angle along the baseline. It was an exciting first half for our loyal supporters!

After a short and sweet halftime team talk consisting of 'more of the same' and 'aim for the corners, ' THD went into the second half hungry for more goals. Coach George was impressed to see Wednesday night's short corner practice pay off spectacularly as the second half saw four PC goals. The team's well-worked routines saw two goals from Grace and two from Dannie, leaving the Wanderers keeper with no chance.

Wanderers tried to regroup, but THD's solid pressing structure prevented significant chances. A late consolation goal left the final score 7-1.

The 7-1 result reflected THD's overall dominance in attack and defence. The team's win and recent run of form puts them fourth in the table and they'll be looking to carry this into next week's match against Surbiton.

MOM: Char for her leads, pressing efforts and for being everywhere up front. Shoutouts went to Ness and Bells for their tireless work and goal assists.

DOD: Cash and Anouk, for both turning up without vital bits of kit (who needs a stick anyway?!)
Goal Scorers: Char x1, Anouk x2, Dannie x2, Grace x2
