Team of the Week: THD M4s v East London M3s.

THD M4s v East London M3s.

A tough game was expected, made harder by 4 Georges on the same team. Team mascots Merlin and Draco provided good support (from opposite sides of the pitch), along with good noise from the Alleyn's Balcony.

THD started strongly, with a high, aggressive press that nearly led to prolific finisher Daz being through on goal in the first minute. This was a sign of things to come, and it was not long before our Belgian Superstar Q calmly slotted home a reverse stick finish to open the scoring.

A few minutes later, a short corner was won by D.Lambeth. Despite our current short corner conversion rate being below 20%, a well-worked routine from G.Mason led to a finish from G.Guest.

2-0

The third goal was a well-worked move that led to our 14-year-old rising star A.Mitchell finally getting his first goal for the team, a deserved moment after weeks of excellent performances.

3-0

Following a trademark speculative slap into the D from T. Paish, a rebound of the keeper was brilliantly driven by W.Leachman into the back of the net, prompting calls for him to bat 3 in the First Ashes test in Perth in 10 days.

4-0

A lovely reverse stick shot from young gun A.Mitchell looked certain to nestle into the bottom corner for his second goal of the game, only for G.Guest to cruelly poach it on the line - no surprises who won DoD...

5-0 at halftime!

Despite a halftime team talk focused on not being complacent, the discussion ended with talks of aerials from kick off, Premier League style. We wouldn't bottle it would we?!

East London scored within 3 minutes of the start... A slightly calamitous goal, with keeper J.Walters kicking a clearance onto his own stick and the ball dribbling over the line.

Was the comeback on? No.

Player of the match Q calmly slotted his 2nd goal less than 2 minutes later, and the game was firmly put to bed.

6-1

A couple of bad challenges led to Greens for D. Lambeth and G. Trigg, but had little impact on the match. H.Martindale then scored our 7th goal, with a lovely assist from A.Mitchell.

7-1

In a cyclical end to the game, Leachman slotted a simple pass to Daz completely unmarked in the D, and a ferocious first time shot left the keeper unmoved and finished the game at 8-1.

What a win! Sitting level on points with top and our goal difference significantly improved, fingers crossed our form continues to Christmas as we face tough games against 1st, 3rd and 5th.

Is that promotion we hear calling?
