Guildford Gladiators vs Tulse Hill & Dulwich Musketeers.
Away WIN 4-5
Strap yourselves in for a ride...
Last year’s away fixture at Guildford gave us a few memories: blowing a 2–0 lead to draw 2–2, picking up three yellows, and collecting three broken ribs for good measure.
So, this year we headed down the A3 with cautious optimism.
The M25, naturally, played its part. Half the squad arrived with about ten minutes to spare, barely enough time to tie boots, never mind warm up. Perfect prep.
Guildford came out swinging, and within ten minutes, we were 2–0 down.
But after a quick defensive reshuffle, we started to look half-decent. Some slick movement up front, a couple of tidy finishes, and suddenly it was 2–2 at halftime.
Hope returned.
The second half was a thing of beauty, crisp passing, smart defending, and a level of composure we usually reserve for the pub. Two more goals and suddenly we’re 2–4 up with ten to play.
Easy, right?
Wrong.
Just as the smell of Guildford’s post-match cottage pie wafted across the pitch, our midfield’s blood sugar plummeted. The forwards looked like they’d run into quicksand. Possession was gifted away like raffle prizes, and two goals later it was 4–4.
Déjà vu?
But not this time. With minutes left, the Musketeers rallied. Wave after wave of attack, and finally Nick Jacobs, cool as you like, buried the winner. 4–5. Exhausting. Beautiful. Chaotic.
MOTM: Our cat-like keeper, John W, who pulled off some outrageous saves
Everyone gave everything. Lots to build on, but preferably not from 2–0 down next time.
Scorers:
Jacobs x2
Potter x1
Henrion x1
Harris x1
