The men's 1s were thrilled to take an opening-day win against an experienced Barnes side at Alleyn's. Featuring seven summer signings and a new playing venue for the opposition, the group no doubt capitalised on the fresh start this fixture presented.
Both sides spent much of the first half working off early-season nerves with few chances being created. This led to an uneasy half-time team talk at 0-0 with both teams feeling they had what it took to secure the win.
Gaps started to open up through desire, lack of fitness, or the drying conditions from the beating sun, and chances began to be created. Defenders calmly outletted, midfielders began to outrun their opposite number and forwards picked up errant passes from the Barnes defenders. The result? A goal for Tom!
Barnes pushed harder and harder to regain control of the game but this created chances for the cool-headed Tulse Hill and Dulwich side. The ensuing breakaway opportunities resulted in Edgy audaciously chipping the keeper to no avail. But the hard work paid off as a short corner provided the opportunity for a second, scored by club captain Sam Close, to close out the game, giving them a clean sheet and a strong foundation to build off.
Final Result 2-0.
