East London M6s 0-4 THD M5s
Saturday 28th January 2023
Mile End Stadium
Scorers: Tom Harris (2), Narns Morse (1) and Henry Turpie (1)
It's been a challenging season for the M5s this year due to promotion last season and a high turnover of players coming into the side. However, there is an air of fresh optimism after xmas with the implementation of a new formation and signs that the team are starting to gel together nicely. Since new year we have had a run of friendly wins and a narrow loss in the previous game versus the league leaders Wanderers M6s meaning we travelled to East London in good spirits in search for a first league win since October.
We started well and looked composed in possession and rock solid in defence but it was our midfield who carried the biggest threat with our impressive quick counter attacks. The game was only 20 mins old when Narns Morse floated past the East London defence before whipping in a quick ball for skipper Tom Harris who's initial shot was saved at the near post by the keeper only for the skipper to bury the rebound. 1 nill THD!
The game was tense with THD still leading 1 nill. It remained 1-0 for over half an hour with several waves of East London attack resulting in short corner after short corner with the THD defence standing up to the challenge. There were some brilliant reflex saves from keeper Adrian Von Eckevort as well as an expert clearance off the line by Phil Kelly.
Mid-way through the second half the 2nd goal arrived as Henry Turpie calmly put Narns Morse clear through on goal. Narns ran about a 1/3 of the pitch through before showing his composure and slotting the ball past the advancing East London goalkeeper to make it 2-0 to THD.
Within the last 10 mins there were 2 further goals as THD scored through Henry Turpie with a nicely worked short corner routine and then the skipper got his second and THD's 4th in dramatic style as he dived full length to steer in a ball into the bottom corner. 4-0 to THD and as the final whistle went relief for the M5s as they claim their first win in the league since October. The win lifts them to 7th place with 2 games in hand over their hosts who sit a place above them.
Post match the MoM was voted as Nick Solly, a stellar performance from our young and upcoming centre back who proved to be resolute throughout a large period of the M5s only being 1 nill up and being battered by waves of East London attacks. Other nominees were; James Anderton, Narns Morse, Seb Down, Henry Turpie and Tom Harris.
Up the M5s!
