Author: Ross (M2 Capt)

Building on a stellar 23/24 season, the men’s 2s were hungry to get their league campaign off to a strong start. After a gritty performance last weekend against a tough Surbiton outfit, the players were eager to bag their first win of the season against London Edwardians. This experienced side had recently come down from Division 1.

Both sides spent the first period of the match getting a feel for the game, with plenty of early attacking chances for THD, and the first goal coming fairly swiftly from TJ. Short corner goal, routine stuff for TJ. 1-0.

As the pressure piled on, the home side absorbed a barrage of aerial pressure from the opposition, and soon extended their lead to 2-0 from Charlie Hill, bagging a goal on his return to the club from university.

As the second half kicked off, the team quickly extended their lead. A lovely finish for Tim West, followed by a penalty flick converted through 2s coach, Jared Oliver doubled the team’s lead to 4-0. London Ed’s tried to steady the ship with a few fast breaks toward our goal however despite having a quiet 1st half, Fergus, our goalkeeper showed no signs of conceding any goals today, and that he did.

A well-executed defensive display throughout the remaining minutes saw the home side take full control of the game. The hard work continued to pay off with plenty of attacking opportunities coming THD’s way. Toby Miller and Ruairí Gillespie both got their goal tally up and running with two lovely back post finishes to put the team 6-0 up into the closing minutes. Completing the forward trio, a lurking Jonny Dane finished off a last-minute short corner to finish the game. Was the ball already going in? Who knows. A goal nonetheless and a 7th different scorer on the day, and a clean sheet to top it off.

Final result 7-0.
