6-2 vs Wayfarers Outlaws
Fresh off last week's key win to move out of the relegation zone, the M3s arrived at Kennington to take on Wayfarers "Outlaws" in higher spirits than even Storm Bert and the continued absence of captain Tim Patton with a dodgy hip couldn't dispel. Stand-in captain Joel Berk showed his leadership inexperience, getting the boys to warm up a full half hour before the game, leaving the boys getting cold on the sidelines waiting for the pitch to become free and worst of all denying Will Broadley time for a pre-game cigarette or two.
Once the game started, THD's high-energy pressing ensured they dominated the opening exchanges, but once again this season, their less-than-clinical finishing meant they failed to take advantage. Eventually, full-back Liam Postance-Eamer took matters into his own hands, beating several defenders on the left to set up James Adams for the opening goal. The lead wouldn't last long, however, as a well-worked Wayfarers counterattack brought it back to 1-1.
Undeterred, Sam Rowland pulled out a superb reverse stick pick at full stretch to win back the ball and start a delightful sweeping counterattack calmly finished off by Jack Mynors to restore the lead. THD continued to dominate but disaster struck just after half time as a deflected Wayfarers pass pinballed around in front of the THD goal before falling kindly for them to equalise at 2-2.
Showing their famed team spirit, inspired no doubt by their stand-in skipper, THD hit back immediately. Jordan Cahir showed fantastic determination to get to a loose ball in the D first before fluffing the finish. Luckily, James Adams was on hand to turn the ball in at the back post.
Within minutes, THD doubled their lead as James completed his hat trick by emphatically smashing the ball into the roof of the net after some slick passing up front. Reeling from this double blow, Wayfarers had to chase the game, giving THD's renowned ball players space to work their magic. Aru Kathegesu found space in the D to batter home one of his trademark finishes, making contact with the ball this week rather than fresh air/opposition players.
James topped things off with his 4th goal, taking a quick free hit, driving "5m" into the D and putting a beautiful reverse stick shot into the bottom corner. The boys showed fantastic intensity right to the end with Josh Branch's brave block costing him a broken finger (rumours he broke it in an unrelated dishwasher-related incident are entirely unfounded)
Final score: 6-2
Goals: James Adams x4, Jack Mynors, Aru Kathegesu
MoM: James Adams
